MYSPACE

-- myspace.com/thebubg --

The BUBG has joined the Myspace revolution. We’ll be updating both this site and Myspace pretty regularly, however, Myspace might move a little fast since we can keep our fingers on it from the road. So…be our friend, say hi often, and look for new BUBG sounds on Myspace. Bottoms Up!

BLUES REVUE REVIEWS 2ND SET

The Bottoms Up Blues Gang invited a dozen St. Louis friends to play on their new album in order to give 2nd Set the feel of one of the duo’s performances. Vocalist/percussionist Kari Liston is largely successful in modeling her delivery on pre-war recordings, and she turns in strong originals in “All I Want” and “12 Lives.” Guitarist Jeremy Segel-Moss’ guitar work is inventive – is rude tones liven up Memphis Minnie’s “Got To Make a Change” -- and his “Mornin’ Blues” is compelling. This self-release is worth a spin; where else will you hear Ani DiFranco’s “Back Around” next to a Hookerized version of Charles Brown’s “Driftin’”?

PLAYBACK REVIEWS LIVE SHOW

Whenever I go to see a band, I think about fabric – let’s say cotton, just to get us away from the synthetics. The beauty of the blues community, perhaps better than any other in this town, is its ability to keep that thread vibrant and strong, mostly to the edges. If you have gotten this far into our special blues issue of Playback St. Louis, you will know what I am talking about.

The Bottoms Up Blues Gang (also known as BUBG or the Gang) is a trio made of Jeremy Segel-Moss, Kari Liston....CON'T

ATTENTION:
For those Ani DiFranco fans in the house...check out St. Louis' Folk Rocker Anna Roland. She played with us at the Confluence Benefit and in Olympia, WA recently. For more info go to: www.annaroland.com.

Rich McDonough is one of St. Louis’ finest guitar players. You won’t find anything like him in the world. His new band features Les (with an outstanding voice) on guitar, Joe P. on drums and Bootigrabbers’ very own, Sharon Foehner on Bass. For more info: www.richmcdonoughband.com.

The Round Ups are South St. Louis’ ten-piece-urban-hillbilly-cowpunk-honky-tonk-band with an incredible ability to drink Stag beer. We love all the musicians, but especially Irene Allen who was featured on The BUBG’s first album, South Broadway Blues. For more info: www.theroundups.com

The BUBG would like to continue to remind everyone about what our government is doing in our names. Recently in St. Louis we've had several instances of infringement on our civil liberties. Mostly notably, the arrests of protesters for potential voices of dissent surrounding the World Ag. Forum. We still do not support our government's choice of violence as a peacemaking tool and like Uncle Bill says about the weapons of mass destruction, "Where the fuck are they?!" Most importantly we'd like to open the lines of communication in our community. We know everyone doesn't agree with us, but one of the most important American Traditions is dissent. It is our right and responsibility to question our government -- especially one like we have now. You can find more information about the movement for peace in St. Louis at insteadofwar & stlimc. We also strongly suggest listening to Democracy Now every evening on KDHX 88.1 fm from 6-7pm.
